i noticed that my self introduction was kinda lacking in details compared to everyone elses so i thought i would say a bit more.
I was royal engineer in gulf 1 , drove a chieftain AVRE , which was a minefield clearing vehicle for those not in the know (there wasnt many about so dont beat yourself up if you have never seen one ). I went to the gulf sometime in 1990 but i cant for the life of me remember when , i didnt even spend one night in the big camps , just got shipped straight out to the middle of the dessert with half a tent (four poles were missing lol) and sat waiting for my AVRE to arrive for a few weeks.
I had all the same injections as everyone else (we werent told there was a choice) and took the NAPS altho i cant remember for how long.
I started getting ill shortly after returning in april 91 and left forces in 93.
I went on sick 2002 and in 2004 i was medically retired by british waterways where i worked as a lock keeper, company doctor told me i was unfit to work and then company pension doctor told me they wouldnt give me my ill health pension as i was fit to work, so i ended up with sod all after giving them 10 years and was in too low a place to fight them, so its not just the forces that crap on you from a great height.
I havent worked since then , i get a small war pension (£30 a week) , incapacity and a tiny bit of disabilities.
I have been aware of NGVFA for a long while but have always preferred the head in the sand approach to my illness/illnesses but in the past 12 months things have got worse physically so i thought it was time to join and face up to things.
Im not very chuffed at the moment as i have started to lose large portions of hair, went from my beard to start with, i was ok with that and said as long as it doesnt go from my head i wasnt bothered, obviously it then started dropping out of my scalp but got my head round that as well, yesterday i lost part of my eyebrow , which is a step too bloody far lol, its looking likely i will be going for a total gail porter now, but i will be investing in eyebrow wigs.
