Each year, in March, the NGVFA hold a 5 day respite break. They have been held since 2000 and over the years hundreds of veterans and their families have attended; it is now an annual event that is very much looked forward to by all the members, who return year on year.
This is a break for the whole family, not just the veteran. The majority are on very low incomes, so for many this is a lifeline. Their only break, and something they look forward to each year. Many feel they would not be able to afford to attend but we can apply for funding for the whole family.
The respite break is focused on giving the veterans, partners and children what they need; this may be information for some, time to relax with friends or time to spend together as a family. The benefits gained from this Respite Break are immeasurable and helps families to tackle their problems in a more positive and productive way.
2010's annual NGVFA respite break will NOT be held in Blackpool at Pontins as has been the case for the last 10 years. Instead, it will be at the Butlins site based in Skegness. The main reason for this change is that the previous location in Blackpool has closed down.
Why Skegness? The site is approximately halfway for most of our members, and also one that can offer more than self catering. Butlins at Skegness meets many of our requirements. There are a lot of facilities for the children and also the teenagers; in particular, the swimming pool is excellent.
Check out the site for yourself : www.butlins.com/resorts/skegness
The respite break will no longer run over a weekend as is has done in the past. It will now run Monday to Friday. For 2010 the dates will be:
If you have any queries about the respite break, or the new dates & location, please call the office, and we look forward to seeing you in Skegness !
