The long lonely nights

As the day draws to another close,
The long lonely night is just starting.
I lay down my head and I think,
"Oh I just want to sleep",
But it is not long till I am back there again.
Just as if it was yesterday,
The smells, the heat, the noise, the sights.
Then it starts.
Which one will it be this time?
Does not matter, as each one is as bad as the last.
Then what seems like forever I awake.
Sweating, heart pounding, screaming out involuntary.
I see the clock by my bed,
One hour has passed.
The long lonely night continues.
Oh how I wish the sun would rise.
